Kenyatta Hill with Yard Squad
Special Early Start Time - 9pm
Kenyatta Hill's career began the day his father’s ended. Joseph Hill, singer and songwriter for the legendary Jamaican vocal trio Culture, collapsed and died while on a 2006 tour of  Europe.  To the amazement of promoters, fans and critics alike, Kenyatta stepped onstage and delivered electrifying performances time and again - nineteen shows in all - until the tour was complete. This was unheard of in any genre of music at any time. Kenyatta gave of himself so totally - as his father had for so many years - that the two seemed to become one, the eerily similar voices and the vibes igniting the critics and yielding a new reggae mantra "magic, not tragic!"  Kenyatta went on to front Culture in a series of performances in the US, Caribbean, Brazil, Argentina and Peru, again leaving audiences amazed and delighted.  Influenced by elements of dancehall, grounded in the roots tradition and motivated to carry on his father's work, Kenyatta set to writing - to finish songs that Joseph had started and create new music of his own.

Yard Squad is a St. Louis based reggae band formed in 1994. They have emerged as a premier reggae act in the United States. Yard Squad is best known for its unique blend and performances of socially conscious roots, reggae, and dancehall. Yard Squad, like the originators of reggae music, proudly accept the duty of spreading the message of "Love and Unity" through the inspirational music they bring to the people. In the summer of 2000, Steven McCauley's honky tonk (and partially vegan) band played a pig roast inLansing where he struck up a conversation with a young woman by the name of Noelle Christine. Over the years, Steve and Noelle's friendship grew and when Steve needed a drummer for a new project he was working on in late 2006, he called on Noelle to join him. It was then that the roots of the Scarlet Oaks were planted.  The addition of bassist Ian Williamson and guitarist/vocalist Mike Munerantz has rounded out the band, to create their unique Americana sound, reminiscent of Johnny Cash or Wilco (before Wilco bored us all to death). Also influenced by such artists as Fred Neil, X, Lee Hazelwood, Roky Erickson, Gram & Emmylou, The Kinks, Elvis Costello, Faron Young, T. Rex, the Stax/Volt Box Set, Loretta Lynn, Dillard & Clark, the Louvin Brothers, and The Zombies.
