hot sauce

"Everybody knows that the Sauce is HOT LIKE FIRE!!!"
That's what people throughout the U.S. are saying about Detroit-based HotSauce. Influenced by great artists such as Earth Wind & Fire, Prince, and Mint Condition, HotSauce is taking music to new levels. Each member of the dynamic eight-piece band adds their own unique flavor to the musical potluck. "We're all formally trained, play multiple instruments, write, and sing. Our talent & diversity helps us to keep developing fresh material," shares trombonist Big O.

Formed in 2000, HotSauce was among the rising stars of the Detroit jazz scene- working with acclaimed jazz musicians such as Marcus Belgrave and Rodney Whitaker- before embracing a more mainstream focus. Keyboardist Eric says, "We still love jazz: it's fun and keeps us on top of our game. But when we thought about the kind of music we want to do and the people we want to reach, we knew we had to do our own thing." Turning to additional influences from various genres (R&B, Rock, Gospel, Soul, Hip Hop, & Funk to name a few), the band developed a unique style to satisfy any musical appetite.

With a buzz compared to the Jackson Five and N'Sync phenomena, HotSauce is developing a strong following as one of the hottest bands in the Midwest. They have performed all over the country, including the North American International Auto Show, the Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival, various colleges & universities, and numerous national, regional, and local television & radio appearances. Their energetic stage show has people everywhere talking about Detroit's new flavor. "It's deeper than just great music: It's an experience!"

HotSauce is ready to impact the music industry. Recognizing a need for quality music and "complete" artists in the industry, the band has created a unique experience unlike anything offered today. To experience HotSauce is to experience real good, feel good music, contagious energy, and a dynamic live show that will change your life.

"Today, most music seems to be either negative or all about sex. It feels like no one is releasing anything that people will want to listen to 15, 10, or even 5 years from now. What happened to good music? HotSauce is all about music that promotes the 'Elements of L.I.F.E.' - Love, Inspiration, Freedom, and Entertainment. We focus on making 'timeless' music: great songs that people will play for years to come. When you experience HotSauce, you'll never be the same."

Or maybe your committie chair person rigged the vote back in 1968 for The Monkeys¡¯, Daydream Believer. Two songs from two totally different decades, both smash hits no one will ever forget. At least that¡¯s what we¡¯re banking on here at GENERATIONS, Inc. We take great pride (and joy) in bringing you the music you love no matter what decade you hail from. Whether you¡¯re brand new to the club scene or been around the block a couple times since highschool, GENERATIONS has what you are looking for in an evening of entertainment.

Saturday  Mar 1

The outer vibe

The Outer Vibe possesses a distinctive sound, both despite and because of their unusual instrumentation. Most accurately described as eclectic rock, the team of seven classically trained musicians seamlessly blends a traditional rock sound with a variety of stylistic musical twists for a thoroughly accessible, even catchy result. Consisting almost entirely of college-age music majors, they have carefully constructed their work so that every note counts. Every chord progression, drum beat, trumpet lick, and vocal melody has been carefully crafted to further complement one another. Influences range from flamenco and Latin jazz to German oompah bands; Led Zeppelin to Lebanese folk music, yet the music remains entirely accessible to any audience and still bears a signature entirely unique to themselves.

Stereo Deluxe
/
Johnny's little rocketship

Stereo Deluxe has been described as “... possibly the most talked-about and admired local band in quite some time. An effortless blend of power-pop, the occasional ballad and pure professionalism has made them the default straight-ahead rock group of Indy.”

“Sporting super-sized guitar hooks, Stereo Deluxe makes rock 'n' roll that's shiny without being slick. There's a bubblegum element to the band's self-titled debut, but the flavor is dark -- more black cherry than cotton candy. Standout track "Uncle Sam" offers a youthful perspective on someone else's war, while "Bomber Jacket" describes the upside of being selfish following a breakup.”

Soon to be a St. Joe favorite at CZARS, come see for your self.

- Johnny's little rocketship
A phone call roused Dan Deitrich from his afternoon nap. It was the promoter for a local venue. They were bringing in a nation act known as The Elms and needed an opening band. Mistaking Dan as the singer of an existing band, The Voice asked him if his group would like the spot. He quickly accepted and began making calls of his own. In a matter of minutes he had recruited long-time friend and drummer Jeff Mierau, a second guitarist and a bass player. Johnny’s Little Rocketship was born.

Since that shaky first performance, Johnny’s Little Rocketship has become a force to be reckoned with. Skye Thrasher and Zach Swisher have since taken over the roles of rhythm guitar and bass, respectively. With an all but nonexistent local music scene JLR was forced to put on the majority of their shows wherever they could. The venues included cornfields, driveways, churches, schools, and sweet 16 birthday parties as well as frequenting the few local clubs such as Czar’s 505.

Kevin Naughton
Watch Kevin as he unleashes his anger and rage on a variety of subjects!. "His persona felt like the guy at the other end of the bar who spouts off to anyone around". That is what Amanda Cohen of the Chicago Tribune had top say about this hilarious comedian. 100% dedication to anger and rage on a flurry of subjects. Angry and edgy aren't two traits that normaly go along with funny, but this comedian shows that one man CAN be all three. Kevins anger is born from the trials and tribulations of every day life, and audiences quickly find themselves laughing along with him as he points out the stupidity that ticks them off too.

Denise Ramsden
is an innovative, original comedian, as she blends biting sarcasm and bold humor with personal experiences. Born and raised on the South side of Chicago, Denise loves to sarcastically pay tribute to her Irish Catholic upbringing. While a favorite among female audiences, her natural, honest sense of humor also greatly appeals to men, and no one is safe from the infectious laugh infused throughout her act. Denise discusses familiar topics and situations, which give her an accessible quality few comics share, but it is a combination that all audiences remember …or whatever…
After participating in year-long Survivor-like contest, Denise was voted Chicagoland’s Funniest New Talent at the Barrel of Laughs in January 2004. Plus, you can run into her vending/slinging Old Style and movie lines almost every game at Wrigley Field, just listen for her laugh.

Half pint jones

Based in South Bend, Indiana, Half-Pint Jones is a five-piece band that combines elements of funk, jazz, reggae, brassband, and rock. The driving backbeat creates a solid mixture of New Orleans flavored funk brewed with jazz fusion and a pinch of reggae.

Half-Pint Jones released their first album on July 31, 2007, entitled “Trilogy of Patches and Olaf”.

In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, saxophonist Chris Olivier found himself uprooted from New Orleans and relocated to Northern Indiana. He soon realized his need to share his New Orleans musical roots with the South Bend area and actively pursued finding the right blend of musicians; quickly discovered in Mark Gamble (trumpet), Steve Krojniewski (drums), Justin Ross (guitar & vocals), and Jayson Sites (bass).

The songs in this album have merged into a new sound for the group, due to the diverse musical influences that each and every member brings to the table.  “I feel the album is unique because of all the experiences we, as individuals, have had,” adds drummer Steve Krojniewski. “From marriage, to fatherhood, to losing parents, to fleeing home, to growing up and letting our true selves out—everything that has lead us to this point in our lives, has made Trilogy the incredible record it has become.”

Half-Pint Jones firmly stands by the statement that they do not fit into any one category of music—and that’s perfectly fine with them. Their music is a mixture of so many things; jam band, jazz, latin, reggae, rock, New Orleans funk. What brings it all together are the feel-good rhythms, lyrics with a message, unconventional horn lines and incredible story-telling solos.

Generations / finneus

Dance and Rock Music You Love
Think back a year or two. Heck, think back several years. Think back to highschool. Ye-e-a-a-h, youknow what I’m talkin’ about. Remember the Junior year turn-about dance? Remember the the-e-eme? Oh, it had a theme. It also had an elected court and a song. Maybe it was that Crash Test Dummies song, Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm. Or maybe your committie chair person rigged the vote back in 1968 for The Monkeys’, Daydream Believer. Two songs from two totally different decades, both smash hits no one will ever forget. At least that’s what we’re banking on here at GENERATIONS, Inc. We take great pride (and joy) in bringing you the music you love no matter what decade you hail from. Whether you’re brand new to the club scene or been around the block a couple times since highschool, GENERATIONS has what you are looking for in an evening of entertainment.

"Rock with girth and more hooks than a meat packing plant"... Finneus has a long tradition amongst peers and fans of always turning out energetic and engaging performances. Ragbirds

.

The Ragbirds use many traditional folk instruments including violin, acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, acoustic guitar, piano and harmonica. But this folky root is firmly embedded in the soil of rhythm, ancient and new, incorporating African poly-rhythms and Afro-Cuban tumbaos, over sometimes rock, hip-hop or reggae style drum-kit.

The bass is unique in its melody, but played with rhythmic drive to make the body dance. Melodic lines are often built of ethnic scales and techniques, sometimes Celtic in style, sometimes Gypsy, or Latin, or African, and there is an improvisational element to the songs that keeps them fresh. In live performances, the band incorporates traditional African drum pieces, each member trading their instrument for a nearby hand drum. They have a strong belief in the beauty of poetry and positive music, and the power of danceable rhythm.

x-girlfriend

Playing tonight direct to you from saginaw michigan
"sprout"

Czars is very sorry to announce that x girlfriend has had to cancell tonights show due to illness. We look forward to rescheduleing this show very soon. Thanks for your understanding. Taz

A town of working class people who are simply living for their next day off, people whose diary looks like it was made on a Xerox machine and who are desperately searching for that one thing that makes us feel happy, if even for a few hours, these are the people of Saginaw, MI. Out of this Midwestern town, tapping into carefree thoughtlessness, helping us forget jobs, bills and court appearances is Sprout (formerly Sprout and the Orange). A family in their mid 20's, formed in late **1998** after being fed up with cover bands and musicians who were creatively afraid, refusing to conform, and proving that following your heart is the one sure way to communicate music. Centered around undiscovered phenom guitarist Aaron Johnson (who also handles lead singing duties), and rounded out with nimble-fingered Justin Weisenbach on keys and the brotherly duo of Steve and Matt Nyquist (on drums and bass respectively)--put them together and you have a band people cannot turn their backs on or dismiss. Embracing music as a whole, no genre is scoffed at. When any one of the band members remarks that they play everything, they mean it. A single song can touch on blue grass, punk, country, funk and good ole rock *n* roll, while never losing a minute of intensity. The band played every bar, party, festival, and biker rally that was willing to listen in Michigan, and after gaining an incredible following decided to move to Nashville, TN. The band accepted an offer from an independent label only to have it go bankrupt shortly after, leaving hours of material in a Nashville studio. Now spending most of their time on the road and stints in the studio, they are once again based in Michigan, but only land there when the road winds through. This amazing 4-piece band will make a mark, and will not stop until their word is out. Enjoy the music, the proof is in the pudding. "...much more gifted and magical than forms that fit the mold of predictability."

Sprout lists the following as inspirations for thier own brand of music......the Grateful Dead, Yes, Parliament Funkadelic, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Frank Zappa, the Meters, Phish, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Stones, Waylon Jennings, Marvin Gaye, Willie Nelson, the Band, Paul Simon, Pearl Jam, ELP, the Doors, Allman Brothers, Iron Butterfly, Ween, and last, but not least, David Hasselhoff.

LADYMOON

Born just hours apart in the same Indianapolis hospital, Ryan Brown and Kris Potts seemed destine to create music together. The two met in the summer of 1988 and quickly became friends. Soon they would discover their musical talents in their respective instruments. Brown took up the guitar and Potts on electric bass. The two jammed together and started creating the foundation of what would eventually become Ladymoon.

Ladymoon is back and better than ever! They recently completed a five song demo and picked keyboardist and singer Nick Jaenicke. Jaenicke has performed all over the country with the Indiana University group Straight No Chaser and his college band Mitchell Street. The four plan on performing at numerous venues and completing a new record by 2008.

Ultra violet Hippopotemus

Somewhere way down on the Muskegon River in the heart of Big Rapids country (below the ring finger on the "heartline" of your Michigan hand) lives a rare creature known as the Ultraviolet Hippopotomus. Besides wallowing in the muck to stay cool (don't we all from time to time) this radiating river cow has been known to make unusual sounds that can only be appreciated by dedicated music freaks - particularly those near Ferris State University. Some say it sounds like rock. Some say it's more like jazz. Still others report electronica, reggae and even bluegrass emanating from the massive orifice of this unpredictable menace. The only way to know for sure is to check them out at a venue near you. - Mitch Murphy - Focus Productions

Saturday  July 5
Stereo Deluxe
